Mentorship is an important part of growing your business. I remember when I was just starting out, there had been many people who have influenced me and the way I have acted in order to become successful. My father was one of those people who helped and pushed me to reach where I am today.
Looking back, I wouldn’t really achieve where I am today without my mentors. They have guided me through my journey. They have provided me with valuable insights which I have applied as I move towards achieving my goals.
It’s easy to understand that mentors are important to us when we are just starting out. But at some point in our journey, we will become mentors to other entrepreneurs who are just starting out and testing the waters to grow their business. For those who are assuming the role of a mentor, here are some tips that you can follow:
- Lead by example. Remember that you should also be practicing the lessons you are teaching to your protégé.
- Push your protégé to his or her limit. This helps in building his/her confidence and persistence.
- Provide constant, honest, and meaningful feedback. Don’t sugarcoat the message you wish to communicate with your protégé.
